UMHS Lipid Therapy Guideline Recommendations (2014)

The guidelines showed that Rosuvastatin is the most potent statins with respect to lowering LDL, followed by atorvastatin, pitavastatin, simvastatin and lovastatin.

Rosuvastatin 40 mg reducing LDL cholesterol by 63% whereas Atorvastatin 80 mg reducing LDL cholesterol by 60%.

Rosuvastatin does not change insulin sensitivity in patients with metabolic syndrome or familial combined hyperlipidemia.

More recent studies indicate that Rosuvastatin is well tolerated in those patients who do not tolerate other statins.
